The Catalyst Consortium
(CATALYST)
Meridian was a partner on a major global initiative funded
by the
United States Agency for International Development
Center for Population, Health and Nutrition. The 5 year
Cooperative Agreement, entitled
CATALYST, was to increase the
use of sustainable quality family planning and reproductive
health services and healthy practices through clinical and
non-clinical programs.
Meridian was part of the consortium that
includes Pathfinder (Prime), the
Academy for Education
Development (AED), the Center for Development and Population
Activities (CEDPA) and
Profamilia/Colombia. The CATALYST Consortium addressed the need to
expand family planning and reproductive health service
availability through both health and non-health channels and
through innovative partnerships that included opportunities for
the private-commercial sector.
Meridian's role in the CATALYST Consortium
was to spearhead development of innovative public/private
sector partnerships that addressed unmet health needs and that
create linkages with both health and non-health groups.
Meridian was responsible for developing commercial sector
partnerships, researching and creating Corporate Social
Responsibility initiatives and creating partnerships with
pharmaceutical companies to improve access to quality
products as well as support the Birth-Spacing Initiative.
