ESD –
Expanding Service Delivery
Meridian is a partner on the
Extending Service Delivery (ESD)
Project of the
United States Agency for International
Development (USAID). ESD is a five-year, USAID-funded
initiative designed to address unmet need for family
planning (FP) and increase the use of reproductive health
and family planning (RH/FP) services in developing countries
at the community level in order to improve health and
socioeconomic development. Focusing at the local level in
poor, at-risk, and underserved communities, the project
accomplishes its mission by increasing global learning and
use of best practices, expanding access to services, and
building the capacity of health care providers to deliver
these services in a sustainable way.
Other partners on the ESD project include
Pathfinder (Prime),
Management Sciences for Health,
IntraHealth International.
Meridian’s role on the ESD Project is to lend technical
assistance in areas of social marketing, communications and
behavioral change communications, and NGO-corporate
partnerships and, in general, to increase the role of the
private sector in RH/FP in the Project’s targeted
countries/communities.
