Egypt:
Maternal/Child Health, Family Planning and Reproductive
Health (Takamol)
Meridian is a partner in a five-year
USAID project in Egypt
known as
Takamol, which began in
2006. Named after the Arabic word for "integration," Takamol
promotes an integrated model for strengthening
maternal/child health, family planning, and reproductive
health services. As the culmination of nearly three decades
of USAID assistance to Egypt in these areas, Takamol is
working to prepare the Egyptian Ministry of Health and
Population to fully support and sustain these services as
USAID phases out its assistance.
Meridian’s staff (both local Egyptian and US-based) works
extensively with community groups to foster community
participation and partnering with the local government and
private sector partners. By forming partnerships with
multinational and local companies, business associations and
other appropriate organizations and community groups in
Upper and Lower Egypt, Meridian is assisting in creating
long-term, sustained support of integrated community health.
Along with gender, the theme of social responsibility is
woven into all Takamol activities.
Other partners on the Takamol project include
Pathfinder (Prime),
John Snow Incorporated (JSI),
John
Hopkins School of Public Health Center for Communication
Programs (JHU-CCP), and Health Care
International. |
