For many years, the leading
international donor agencies, such as USAID, UNFPA, Germany's KFW and GTZ, and the UK's Department of Foreign Development have
played a major role in providing free contraceptive commodities to many
developing countries. |

What
is Contraceptive Security? |
|
Contraceptive
security exists when people are able to choose, obtain, and
use quality contraceptives and other essential reproductive
health products whenever they need them. |
|
|
However, given the decline in donor
funding and the increase in the number of men/women of
reproductive age throughout the developing world, there is an
ever widening gap between the demand for and the
supply of high quality, affordable contraceptives.
It is
widely recognized that the private sector pharmaceutical
companies have a major role to play in assuring future supply
of product and that working in partnership with the public
sector can help address the issue of contraceptive security.
Meridian
specializes in
public-private partnerships which link the demand from
the public sector with the supply of the private sector.
Meridian has worked extensively with
pharmaceutical companies to help bridge the gap between
contraceptive demand and supply.
